Marc Dos Santos has led Ottawa Fury FC to the top of the NASL Fall Season standings, but the head coach is now set to depart for a new gig.
Fury FC announced Tuesday that Dos Santos will leave the team at the end of the season to pursue a coaching opportunity in MLS. Fury FC went on to say that the club has given permission for an MLS team to hold contract discussions with the head coach.
Dos Santos is reportedly set to accept a job as an assistant with Sporting Kansas City, according to TSN.
“It’s the nature of the sport,” said Fury FC President, John Pugh. “Marc has done a great job for us, other clubs have noticed and he is moving-on with the intention of moving-up to higher levels of the game. We thank Marc for his two seasons of service to Ottawa Fury FC and wish him well in the future.”
“I think we’ve put together something very special here in Ottawa,” Dos Santos added. “I’d like to thank John Pugh and the ownership group for giving me the opportunity to be part of it. Thanks also to all Fury and OSEG staff, and a special thanks to Ottawa/Gatineau fans. I know the franchise is in great shape for the future.”
Fury FC, who revealed that a coaching search is already under way for Dos Santos’ replacement, hired the Canadian coach ahead of the team’s debut 2014 season. After a ninth-place finish in the Spring Season, Dos Santos’ Fury FC currently top the Spring standings while sitting third on the combined table.
Prior to joining the NASL club, Dos Santos previously took charge of the Montreal Impact, then in the NASL as well, on an interim basis in 2009 before becoming the team’s full-time head coach from 2009-11 before resigning.
What do you think of Dos Santos’ departure? How will Fury FC fare this season and beyond? Where do you expect Dos Santos to end up?

I would have thought that He was going to end up as head coach of Atlanta United. Marc has a track record of starting up a team and getting it off on the right foot and AU ownership would have had several chances to see him in action at Silverback games. I’m really going to miss the style of play he brought to the Fury. It’s one of the reasons I bought season tickets. 🙁
No, Tim D. didn’t miss anything Fred. “Reportedly” doesn’t mean s**t to me until it’s set in stone. Montreal actually probably is a good guess and that was also a “reported” option in another article today.
Seattle, Colorado, Philly, Chicago? Where’s he going?

It literally states this in the article above, it helps to not skim when you read.
Neither of those 4. 16 left, keep guessing.
would have guessed Montreal but SKC it is.
Attack!!!!!!!!
Reading these comment sections before, it’s happened before where someone posts a comment, the article gets edited, and then people come afterwards and yell at the person why they would ask such a question.
It might be Tim D. missed it, but it could have been edited afterwards. Don’t need to hang him just yet.
Exactly. Regular readers of this site should know and understand that by now. Even the comments section get edited, and sometimes whole blocks of comments are deleted. No need to jump on someone for something so trivial…
