Sebastian Giovinco’s first year in MLS continues to be better and better with each passing weekend.

The Italian playmaker once again led Toronto FC, this time scoring twice and assisting once to help his side to an important 3-1 win against the Colorado Rapids at BMO Field. His exceptional performance put Toronto FC on the brink of qualifying for its first-ever appearance in the MLS playoffs and earned him recognition as SBI MLS Player of the Week.

After a surging run that started in his own half down the right wing, Giovinco gave Toronto the lead in just the 14th minute. The day was only just starting for the 28-year-old star, though. He doubled the advantage four minutes later with a sumptuous finesse shot from a couple of yards outside the box.

Just before halftime, he provided an assist, swinging in a corner kick from the left flag. Damien Perquis rose high at the near post and flicked the ball in with a powerful header.

Giovinco beat out Benny Feilhaber, Clint Dempsey, Didier Drogba and Devon Sandoval for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Giovinco’s performance? Who stood out the most to you this weekend?
