In what has already proven to be a successful first year, Matt Polster continued to show MLS that he is more than capable of being a staple in the Chicago Fire midfield.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder helped the Fire secure a point on the road in a 1-1 draw against Orlando City SC, and his performance earned him recognition as SBI MLS Player of the Week.
Polster, who was recently called into the U.S. Under-23 National Team camp in England, had two clearances, two blocks and three interceptions in the back. He also completed 82 percent of his passes on the evening, which is his average per game so far this season and is one of the best for the Fire.
Polster beat out Axel Sjoberg and Cyle Larin for SBI MLS Rookie of the Week honors.
What did you think about Polster’s performance against the Fire? How important has his play been for the team this season?
