International soccer is in full swing Friday, with the world’s top teams competing in tournament qualification matches and friendlies.

In one of the most intriguing and important games this international break, Germany hosts Poland in Frankfurt. Germany sits one point behind Poland in Group D of UEFA Euro 2016 qualification, but Poland defeated the German national team in the pair’s first qualification meeting. Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger and company will be looking to make sure history does not repeat itself, though.

The next cycle of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup also kicks off on Friday. The Third Round sees Jamaica square off with Nicaragua and Gold Cup standout Haiti compete against Grenada.

Meanwhile, in friendly competition, Portugal and France meet in a showdown of some of Europe’s top teams, the U.S. Men’s National Team hosts Peru in the nation’s capital, and Mexico tees off with Trinidad and Tobago late into the night.

  1. Considering the available options, I like this line-up Klinsmann trotted out. For me the only question marks are Brooks over Cameron, and Yedlin starting even though he can’t be too sharp since he doesn’t play for club. But I understand what Klinsmann is looking for by using him.

    • I watched the U-23 game against England and one thing is still very evident, we are a LONG LONG way off from producing talent like these countries. I’m still not sure what the underlying problem is, but we are not even in the ballpark yet.

    • Not sure about France but it looked at least on paper like almost all the stars of the world cup were with the U-23s. I would think this would be the new group for the next U-20 in 2 years. Did little Ribery play does anyone know?

  3. “CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup also kicks off on Friday. The Third Round sees…”

    I feel like there’s a contradiction there.

  4. … MEN! who understand that wearing the colors is an honor.
… MEN! who don’t make the assumption that they are doing US(A) a favor by suiting up.
… MEN! who will not quit, or whine when the going gets rough
