While the Vancouver Whitecaps started Week 28 off with a big win, one battle in Ohio shook up the race last weekend, setting up a mad dash to the 2015 Supporters’ Shield.
FC Dallas went into MAPFRE Stadium Sunday and dominated the Columbus Crew, 3-0, increasing its chances at lifting the Shield trophy by season’s end. The dominant performance helped solidify FC Dallas’ position in the running, putting them just two points behind the second place LA Galaxy and four behind the Whitecaps.
Meanwhile, Week 28 started Wednesday, and both matches had Shield implications.
The Vancouver Whitecaps earned an important 2-0 win against the Colorado Rapids, while Sporting KC went on the road to Providence Park and forced a 0-0 draw with a disgruntled Portland Timbers side as well.
Here are the current MLS Supporters’ Shield standings, and the upcoming matches that will have the biggest impact on that race:

Interesting numbers about MLS:
“48.97 percent of the league is made up of foreign players (248 of 564). The nation with the most talent in the league after the US and Canada was Argentina with 28 players. England is second amongst foreign countries with 21, Brazil is next with 19, and Colombia and France round out the top five with 18 and 16, respectively.
Now, filling your roster with foreign-based talent does not necessarily guarantee success or failure. The New England Revolution have just six foreign players per the survey, and are healthily in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. However, the leaders in foreign talent, the Vancouver Whitecaps, sit atop the league standings. The Whitecaps have 20 foreign players.”
4 points out of first with two games in hand…playing galaxy again and the ‘caps two more times before the season is done…Dallas is in position to pull out the SS by a nose. All starts with this weekend against NYC…if we can get a point or three then we’re still in great shape.
Dallas has lost every game that they SHOULD have won. A last place Colorado (0-4 home) …a struggling Chicago…(2-0 away). I’m cautiously optimistic.
Won a game last week that we by all standards of measurement shouldn’t have…I said they’re in a good position, not that it was going to happen. I’ll hope all day long for it to happen, but I won’t feel cheated or robbed if it doesn’t.
On a somewhat related note, how good is Dallas going to be once they can drop their perennial losing streak?

Revs have 40 pt.s and a game in hand on each of those teams that have 41 points.
I don’t think they have a legit chance at a Shield but I do think it’s worth noting.
PPG LA is in fourth and unlike Vancouver, not controlling their own destiny.
How does the Galaxy lose a game? I mean Rickets is past his prime, but with the shear offensive fire power they should never lose.
I don’t rate the Galaxy that high that they SHOULD win every game.
Their mid is mediocre. GK is weak. Ricketts hung on a little too long.
So now they play Montreal ( CCL finalists ) with Drogba looking like he did last weekend. They and Dallas have too much speed for LA. Seattle in Seattle, that might be a full 65,000ish crowd game. Portland and KC are tough.

The east which is a mess, will be between red bull soda, revolution and crew. Dark horse is Toronto
MLS cup should be galaxy vs red bull but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Dallas vs revolution.
But for sure, no east team is wining MLS cup.
Yeah makes sense because the West is better and we know for a fact that the best team wins every game every time.
