The just-released FIFA 16 demo will not just give gamers a hands-on preview of what to expect from this year’s game. It will also provide them with a chance to debate player ratings, specifically those of the U.S. Women’s National Team.

The demo for EA Sports’ annual soccer video game was released for consoles on Tuesday, and with it came the revelation of the initial player ratings for the World Cup-winning Americans. These differ slightly from some of the ones EA Sports recently unveiled, but still provide an idea for what to expect.

The best player in the demo on the U.S. Women’s team, which is rated five stars, is veteran forward Abby Wambach with an 88 overall rating. Following her are star goalkeeper Hope Solo and wide midfielder Megan Rapinoe with 87s. Carli Lloyd comes next with an 86, and after her are Alex Morgan and Becky Sauerbrunn with 84s.

Other notable ratings on the squad in the demo of game – which is the first to include women’s teams and has face scans for all 23 players – are Sydney Leroux’s 82 and Christen Press at 72.

No word yet on what are the player ratings for U.S. Men’s National Team, but Clint Dempsey has been listed at 81 as seen on the Seattle Sounders’ roster in the demo.

Here is a closer look at the FIFA 16 demo player ratings of the U.S. Women’s National Team:

  1. in the past, this video game (ea sports) was not my favorite. my favorite (by a factor of like 100) was “mls extra time” by konami.

easports: mls is absent; or generic (city names not club names); no real player names, no faces, no mls stadiums; british announcers, nearly all stadiums are in europe. and the gameplay: the ball sticks to the players like glue. hold down the boost button and dribble circles around everyone. WAY too “video gamey” for my taste. and where is the through ball pass?

konami’s mls extra time: basically, the opposite: all real mls clubs, player names and faces and stats. and all mls stadiums and american (usa) announcers. better game play imo, you can’t just hold down the “speed boost” button and score, send team mates through with through passes. overall, an “american style” presentation of the sport. this game imo was like john madden football, only the soccer version (ironically, madden is of course made by easports. i like their madden but i don’t like their fifa).

it broke my heart that mls partnered with easports instead of konami. but, oh well, you get used to it, i guess.

  2. This is clearly Klinsmans fault, Wambach is a German name are we even sure she’s a real American and not one of these dual nationals? Sorry couldn’t resist.

    • Think these ratings are from the initial roster on the demo, which will likely differ from what comes out on the first roster update when game releases.

      • Still too high at this point in her career if Lloyd is 91 and Rapinoe a 90, Abby should be more like an 80.

  3. If its supposed to be strictly this years team they didn’t do much homework. Abby is one of the greatest American players all time, but she is not what she used to be.

    • Her strength is probably 100, her heading 95, her shot power 95 and the other stats 60s. Lots of players’ ratings are skewed because they’re either ridiculously strong or fast. She’s probably not the most skilled player, and not well-rounded.

Also: Interesting that they rated by comparing each other, not the men’s players. Rating them compared to the men’s side would have been interesting.

      • I realize some people don’t want to hear it, but they’d be in the 30s and 40s compared to men’s sides, if that. There’s only a few women in the world who wouldn’t look sorely out of place at the lowest professional levels – the physical differences are just too large. Even technically they’d be lacking if they tried to play against men – there’s so much more time and space in the woman’s game.
