The road to recovery has begun for talented English international Luke Shaw.
The 20-year-old fullback suffered a double fracture of his right leg during Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to PSV Tuesday, but he underwent surgery late into the night and will stay in Eindhoven for the time being to recover.
“Thank you everyone for your messages, words can’t describe how gutted I am, my road to recovery starts now, I will come back stronger,” Luke Shaw said after the incident.
With the injury, Shaw will likely miss six months of action for Manchester United. The injury may also weigh on the mind of England manager Roy Hodgson, who will have to plan his roster for the European Championship in advance.
The tackle from Mexican international and eventual goal-scorer on the day Hector Moreno led to the subsequent injury suffered by Shaw. Moreno, who suffered from a similar broken leg in 2014, said he didn’t do it on purpose.
“I don’t know what happened,” said Moreno of the tackle. “I don’t remember, I just feel really bad because I was involved in the accident. I feel really sorry.
“I think it was not a foul, I think I played the ball, but in this kind of situation I don’t care if it was a foul, I feel bad for him, for his family.”

HEAD COACH LUIS ENRIQUE SAYS BARCELONA IS NOT FAVORITE TO REPEAT
Barcelona may have a healthy and powerful side heading into its first match of the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League campaign, but its head coach thinks the team is not a favorite to repeat.
Ahead of the team’s showdown with Serie A side AS Roma, head coach Luis Enrique told reporters that Barcelona is not the favorite to repeat as UCL champions.
“The objective of winning the second consecutive Champions League is not added pressure, it’s a marvelous stimulus for the fans and the team,” Enrique said. “We will try but it is not added pressure, quite the opposite.
“If we were favorites for having won the league, we are also favorites for having won the Champions League. You have to show it out on the field and here is the difficulty. When the ball is in motion there are no champions, no favorites, just 32 teams who all want to be champions.”
JUVENTUS HEAD COACH CALLS GIANLUIGI BUFFON BEST GOALKEEPER EVER
Juventus needed a strong collective effort to take down current English Premier League leaders Manchester City, but according to head coach Massimiliano Allegri, the team would be nothing without its goalkeeper.
Allegri called 37-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon the best goalkeeper ever after he turned in another solid shift in goal, saving five shots on the day en route to a 2-1 win.
“I hope he will go on for as long as possible, certainly as long as I am manager,” Allegri told reporters after the team’s win at Ethiad.
“Buffon is someone who is extraordinary goalkeeper, perhaps the best ever in the history of football. He never fails.”
In total, Buffon has appeared 150 times for Italy, including a start in goal during the team’s World Cup win in 2006. He has also won six Serie A titles.
