A frustrating first year at the helm of New York City FC might also be Jason Kreis’ last.

SI.com reported on Wednesday that Kreis is at risk of losing his job, and could be replaced by famous former French player Patrick Vieira. No decision has been made on Kreis’ future, but the report states that the 39-year-old Vieira has been interested in finding a head-coaching job.

NYCFC has already missed out on the playoffs despite there still being a week left in the MLS regular season, and has compiled a disappointing 10-16-7 record under Kreis. The expansion club has been plagued by injuries and inconsistent performances throughout the year, and not even having three big-name Designated Players could help New York City enjoy a successful campaign on the field.

If Kreis winds up being replaced by Vieira, NYCFC would have a World Cup winner leading the charge. Vieira, who has a coaching job with NYCFC’s parent club Manchester City, won the 1998 tournament with France. He has not previously been a manager of a club, however.

NYCFC closes out its first year on Sunday with a home game vs. the New England Revolution.

What do you think of Kreis potentially being replaced by Vieira? Think Kreis should be fired but replaced with someone else? Should NYCFC give Kreis another year?

  1. Doesn’t make any sense to invest so much in a great MLS coach and then dump him after one season. If this is how Man City Lite makes decisions, they’ll be in crisis before long.

  2. i disagree with this.
nycfc fans, where you at? the season ticket holders who basically were lied to and bought season tickets thinking they’d see big name stars since mls week 1. and then after you paid for your tickets, we are informed that lampard won’t join team until mid-season. six months older. and perhaps a little weary from long season? remember?
this nycfc is supposed to be built on 3 stars. but at least 1 did not arrive until summer.
(did the other 2 arrive on time?)
some teams, like maybe a mls 2.0 dom kinnear houston dynamo team doesn’t need any “stars”, just a bunch of hard working regular guys will be fine, “the team is the star”. yes?
but if you are nycfc, and if your whole strategy to win ballgames this year was to let lower paid guys win the ball and pass it to these 3 stars, and the stars don’t arrive until august, how is that jason kreis’s fault? and it kind of ruins your whole plan to win games with “star power”, yes?

if all 3 stars had been with the team since pre-season camp, and kreis had them all year, then that’s different. but it didn’t happen that way, yes?

when lampard didn’t arrive until august, the fans were mislead, and you can say that maybe jason KREIS WAS ALSO MISLED. if he believed we was going to have all 3 of these stars since day 1. and he didn’t.

    yes?
