Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Chelsea-Liverpool-Getty-Images-31

Jose Mourinho and Chelsea need a win Saturday to help turn their season around, but that wont be easy against a Liverpool side that has appeared to finally have found its new identity under head coach Jurgen Klopp.

Chelsea welcomes Liverpool to Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League’s first Saturday match, and while the Blues have struggled as of late, it’s been quite the opposite for the Reds. Klopp secured his first-ever win with Liverpool Wednesday in a Football League Cup match against AFC Bournemouth. Meanwhile, Chelsea lost to Stoke City in the same competition via penalty kicks Tuesday.

In Germany, Hertha Berlin-Borussia Mönchengladbach is one of the headliners in the Bundesliga. They meet at Olympiastadion Berlin, but Mönchengladbach hasn’t lost in its previous five matches — a streak that includes wins against Wolfsburg and Schalke 04 and a tie against Juventus.

Meanwhile, the NASL’s Fall Season concludes this weekend, and six teams end their campaign today. The New York Cosmos face off against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, and fireworks are bound to fly with both sides heading into the meeting with something to play for.

  1. No Cameron today… with Shawcross healthy, what happens to Cameron when he’s back from injury. Gotta find a spot for him right? He’s been a stud.

  2. LFC needs to get more flank play against Chelsea, which is doing a good job clogging up the middle of their defensive half. Lots of possession for Liverpool but few threatening opportunities on goal.
