Reports: Terrence Boyd suffers setback, will undergo another surgery

Terrence Boyd RB Leipzig injury

Terrence Boyd will not be returning to the field soon, as he will reportedly have to undergo surgery yet again.

Boyd, 24, initially injured his right knee while playing for RB Leipzig against Ingolstadt in December 2014. He recently was training with his club and hoped to make a full recovery soon, but multiple outlets are reporting that the striker will have to have another operation in order to drain fluid from his knee.

No definitive date is set for Boyd’s return to the field, but he is expected to miss several months.

Since joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2014, Boyd has only made eight appearances and scored three times for the second-tier German side. He has not made an appearance for the U.S. Men’s National Team since 2013.

What do you think of Boyd’s setback? See him bouncing back in a big way or worried about how he will play once he recovers from these knee problems? Is he a player that the USMNT will be able to count on this cycle?

  1. Man, this is the worst.

There’s an old SBI show from awhile back where they interviewed T Boyd, and I remember listening to it and immediately thinking “I like this cat.” Super energetic, so, so excited to represent the USMNT and to just pull on the jersey and be part of the squad. It was impossible to listen to that interview and NOT be a fan of his. He was young, and probably way too naive in his first couple caps, but the talent was definitely there.

Anyway, best wishes to him, at this point you just hope he can get back on the field and salvage his career. Whatever happens, I’ll be rooting for him.

  2. Poor guy. At this point I just hope he can have something that amounts to a professional career– anything the USMNT gets out of him is upside.

I hope he is getting the support he needs. No point whatsoever in rushing at this point.

  3. Man that’s rough, love the heart he plays with, really thought he should have been in Brazil as he was the only other true target forward. hopefully he can recover this go around

  5. Love this kid, he has shown so much promise, and wants nothing more than to rock the US jersey. Wish him nothing but the best and a full recovery.

    • yea during last cycle he seemed to have an overconfidence about him thinking that he was the next big thing but that would cause terribly boneheaded mistakes. finally he was starting to realize the life of a pro and had curbed this notion but sadly was injured right around the WC and it’s been Stu Holden since then… sad
