Brad Guzan and Aston Villa still have not won since their season opener, but they picked up a respectable result this weekend which could provide a big boost in confidence.
English Premier League cellar dweller Aston Villa grabbed a point at home on Sunday by playing current league leader Manchester City to a 0-0 tie. Guzan contributed to the result that ended the Villans’ seven-game losing streak by making three saves, and the shutout was his second of the campaign, and first since beating AFC Bournemouth, 1-0, on Aug. 8. Aston Villa remained in last place despite picking up the point, and is still five away from safety.
Another U.S. Men’s National Team player to see the field and make an impact this weekend was Geoff Cameron. Stoke City became the latest club to add to Chelsea’s misery by grabbing a 1-0 home win on Saturday, and Cameron chipped in with a 19-minute shift off the bench. Cameron had recently been dealing with a thigh injury, but made his return in the match after a brief spell on the sidelines and helped Stoke preserve its second-half lead.
While Cameron was trying to prevent a goal, Bobby Wood was busy creating them. Wood scored one and assisted on another on Saturday as FC Union Berlin played to a 3-3 draw with FC Nurnberg. Wood now has five goals on the 2. Bundesliga campaign, and heads into the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in good form.

David Wagner takes over today at Huddersfield Town, they lost 3-0 to Leeds over the weekend. English Championship rated above French Ligue 2, so I guess Wagner would be the highest placed American manager in Europe. They will take on Sheffield Wednesday in his managerial debut Nov. 21. Can we get an American managers abroad section?
20 yr.old American Duane Holmes came on for Hunddersfield in the 72nd and was quite lively in a 3-0 loss. David Wagner, today, stressed the importance of playing at speed and purpose, and Holmes in the handful of times I’ve seen him has displayed that. Hopefully, Wagner will have a place for him.
great mention, and it makes me wonder why this kid hasn’t been brought into the youth set up for the US because he clearly has ability and has been in europe(born in the UK)forever. I follow his tweets every now and again and they lead me to believe that he’d jump at the chance to put on the shirt. Can’t leave any stone unturned unfortunately so i think it would behoove us to bring in all young, exciting talent with meaningful ties to the Stars and Stripes.
28 appearance over three years, most of them off the bench with no goals. Seems the US doesn’t pay much attention unless another nation is trying out their services. So if England would express some interest I am sure we would come calling.
In the UK media, they refer to Wagner as German – which he is.
