Steven Gerrard is reportedly heading back to Liverpool this offseason. In what capacity remains to be seen.
Gerrard is expected to rejoin his former club Liverpool at some point this winter after having multiple conversations with new manager Jurgen Klopp, English outlet the Independent reported late on Tuesday. The 35-year-old midfielder is currently expected to only train with the Reds until he’s due back in the United States for the start of the LA Galaxy’s preseason on Jan. 15, but there is supposedly the chance that he returns to Liverpool for good.
Such a move would probably require a transfer fee, as the Galaxy are reportedly not interested in loaning out Gerrard back to the Premiership side. Gerrard has one more year on his contract with the Galaxy, which he joined this past summer on a Designated Player deal.
The veteran Englishman and defending-champion Galaxy endured a disappointing end to their first season together. They lost last week to the Seattle Sounders in the first round of the MLS Playoffs, falling, 3-2, at CenturyLink Field.
Gerrard finished his first MLS campaign to mixed reviews. He started each of the 13 regular-season games he appeared in and scored two goals while assisting on three others, but only of those five tallies that he was involved in came after Aug. 24.
