Four ACC teams have reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, and this weekend could see three book a spot in the College Cup.

No. 1 overall seed Wake Forest is one step away from that stage — a stage of the competition it hasn’t been to since 2009. Meanwhile, Clemson, led by head coach Mike Noonan, has become a dominant force not only in the ACC but also in the nation. The Tigers’ skills will be put to the test on Friday night in the first match of the quarterfinals against No. 10 Maryland (7 p.m., ESPN3).

Meanwhile, there will officially be one ACC team to qualify for the Final Four, as No. 6 Syracuse hosts unseeded Boston College in one of four matches. The Golden Eagles upset the hottest side entering the tournament in No. 3 Georgetown to reach this stage.

No. 4 Akron hosts No. 12 Creighton in the fourth matchup of the weekend. The Zips have looked superb going forward so far this tournament, outscoring their opponents, 8-2. The Bluejays, however, have MAC Hermann Trophy frontrunner Fabian Herbers, and while he hasn’t scored a goal in the tournament thus far, he’s bound for a breakthrough.
