Louis Van Gaal is on the hot seat following a string of poor performances in recent weeks, but that may come to an end on Monday.

According to the Telegraph, the Manchester United manager apparently had discussions with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and will be stepping down as boss no matter the result on Monday against Chelsea.

Van Gaal and Man United have lost their previous four games, including three consecutive English Premier League contests.

After Saturday’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Stoke City, Van Gaal said that he was contemplating resigning instead of allowing himself to be sacked by the Red Devils’ Board of Directors.

Here are some more news and notes:

KLOPP DOESN’T WANT TO RUSH STURRIDGE RETURN

English international Daniel Sturridge says he is able to perform, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is not rushing his return.

Over the weekend, Sturridge told Klopp he is ready to play once again after recovering from his latest hamstring injury, but the Reds manager is cautious about inserting him into the roster to quickly.

“This is absolutely the same thing that Daniel said four weeks ago,” said Klopp. “We let him play and he was injured again. You ask him and he says he’s good. I know he is good, but he has to train. We cannot change the situation, he has to train now.

“We really, really have to be patient now. We have to wait. We have to train. We have to give the body the right information, and if he can do this, then maybe we can change something.”

Liverpool has had a problem with injuries during the 2015-16 campaign, as Divock Origi was the latest member of the team to suffer a muscle injury — a hamstring strain on Saturday — since Klopp took the reigns.

Currently sitting in eighth on the English Premier League table, Liverpool face off against Sunderland on Wednesday.

JACKSON MARTINEZ AGENT REVEALS CHELSEA INTEREST

Colombian international Jackson Martinez is apparently a wanted man in England.

According to the Atletico Madrid forward’s agent, Henrique Pompeo, Martinez would like to be successful with the Spanish club, but Chelsea has shown recent interest in acquiring his talents.

“I can’t say (Chelsea’s interest is) a lie, this is football and nobody knows what the future holds,” Pompeo told Spanish outlet AS.  “What I can say is that Jackson isn’t a player who leaves a club unless it’s through the front door.”

Martinez has scored only three goals in 12 games for Atletico this season after joining the team from FC Porto in the summer of 2015.

  1. Van Gaal went out of his way to piss off and demean a bunch of his players and now he’s playing the price. That kind of arrogance only works if you’re wining….. and he ain’t.
