After spending almost two-plus seasons with the Chicago Fire, Mike Magee is returning to California.

The LA Galaxy announced the signing of free agent Magee on Thursday, confirming earlier reports. The 13-year MLS veteran spent 2009 to 2013 with the Galaxy, winning two MLS Cup titles.

“Mike has shown that he is one of the most versatile and effective players in our league,” Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena said in a team release. “He is familiar with our club and will be a key part of our team on and off the field. We look forward to Mike joining to our roster.”

Magee’s breakout season came in 2013, when he scored 21 goals and recorded seven assists combined for the Galaxy and Fire, earning MLS MVP honors at the end of the season.

In two full seasons with the Fire, the 31-year-old attacker only scored seven goals and provided six assists in 39 appearances due to being hindered by injuries each season.

What do you think of Magee’s signing? Think he will do well with the Galaxy once again?

  1. If he stays healthy, it’s probably a good signing. Otherwise . . .probably wasted money. So many injuries the last 2 seasons is probably why Chicago let him go.
