Martinez says Rapids have made no inquiries for Howard

Tim Howard will not be heading to Colorado, according to Everton head coach Roberto Martinez.

A report on Jan. 15 said the Colorado Rapids were attempting to acquire the 36-year-old American goalkeeper, but the Everton boss shot down that rumor on Monday.

“No at the moment there is nothing. There is nothing to comment on,” Martinez said when asked if there was any validity to the Rapids’ link.

In mid-January, the Everton manager said it is “impossible to say” whether or not Howard would remain with the club come next season. However, Martinez further stated on Monday that the club had received no bids at all for Howard’s services.

The U.S. Men’s National Team netminder has made 23 starts for Everton during the 2015-16 English Premier League campaign.

What do you think of this development? Think the Rapids have made any approach for Howard?

  1. It just feels as though Howards days as a sure fire starter are numbered at Everton, he does not seem to have the same level of confidence previously shown. I heard a commentator this weekend stating that Timmy leads the league in PKs conceded

    • When you’re dealing with one on one breaks so often, you’re bound to give up a lot of PKs. Not that he’s been great, but his defense is painfully bad.

    • The stat i heard on the broadcast was on pk’s over a 3-5 year period. The past 2 weeks, the defense has put T-Ho in a bad position twice with poor passbacks that have led to goals. This makes for easy comments that Howard is not as good or not up to par. Also recall that Jackielka has been out with injury and Martinez wants to play a more open, fast, passing style that leads to easier counterattacks.

When the Toffess were all counter attack being led down the left wing by Leighton Baines, there were fewer chances on goal and Howard was excellent.
