After reports surfaced last night about the Los Angeles Galaxy’s interest in AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong, Bruce Arena’s side is reportedly in the market for another European addition:

The Galaxy are reportedly targeting Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott in an attempt to solidify the team’s back line following the recent departure of USMNT center back Omar Gonzalez. The English Premier League veteran has 18 months remaining on his current contract. (REPORT)

The Montreal Impact may have found a temporary replacement for Didier Drogba in 2016, as the club has reportedly expressed interest in Monaco striker Guido Carrillo. The 24-year old has scored one goal in 15 matches this season for the Ligue 1 side. (REPORT)

Jordan Schweitzer became the Seattle Sounders’ sixth Homegrown signing, joining the club after a successful college career at the University of Denver. (REPORT)

Real Salt Lake announced on Thursday that the club had re-signed defensive duo Demar Phillips and Phanuel Kavita. Phillips joined the Western Conference side in 2015 after spending significant time with Norwegian side Aalesund, while Kavita also joined the team as a Homegrown signing. (REPORT)

The MLS Players Union announced the appointment of former player Ty Harden and labor lawyer Johnny Andris. Harden will serve as a player relations manager, while Andris will serve as staff counsel and will join the Union’s legal department.

What do you think of the Galaxy’s reported interest in Lescott? Is Carrillo a suitable replacement for Drogba in Montreal?

  1. Lescott would be an improvement over De Jong and maybe Cole. What I can’t figure out, besides the thinking behind some of these choices, is where all the money is going to come from to sign these guys. They have already used up their DP and TAM and they must be near the top of their salary cap.

    • Reportedly, Cole will be bought at a non-DP and non TAM money, well below 400K. Not only do the Galaxy have a lot of cap room from releasing 8 players and re-signing one (OK, many of the players released were not a lot of money although Ricketts was a bit) The Galaxy will not have to pay the salaries of Juninho and Gonzales a non-DP but DP money, So with those minuses, they get these pluses. Transfer/allocation money from the Gomzales/Junninho sale, allocation money for the CCL and TAM money So the Galaxy have a pretty big war chest despite already having 3 DP’s. They also picked up three low-key, young players in Daniel Steres, the USL defender of the year. A very talented and young GK with Clement Diop (a former France U19 player) and Dave Romney (and a real relation to Mitt) signed last year also from Los Dos. This leaves the Galaxy with salary cap room plus TAM plus Allocation money in the range of 2 million. Should the Galaxy get around transfer fees and get reasonable salary numbers they could squeeze in not only Cole, but Lescott and De Jong also, but at least one or the other.
A lot of people say the deal for Cole is crazy given his age, And their are those who jhate De Jong because of the Holden tackle, bu they are good, if not aged players and we all know Bruce Arena is Crazy…like a fox

      • TRUE!

Instead of De Jong or Cole, I really wish they would move Robbie Rogers back to the L. And bring in JJ90

  2. Instead of all o these old English players why not give Jermaine Jones a job in LA?

And no one cares about the first 6 games…practically extended preseason until the late summer

You would think Chicago would be more proactive, especially in light of other teams gearing up for next season. The way the team has performed, along with the way the front office has been run is more than enough cause for therealchicagopete’s high level of concern and frustration…

      • Truth be told, I’m surprised Chicago still has fans. If it’s not the worst run club in MLS it’s right up there. Down from the experience for the fans, location of the stadium, marketing and tv telecast quality (broadcasting, too), product on the pitch to the lack of committment and vision by the ownership/front office. It’s near the bottom in every metric.

I’ve also met some people in social circles that were employed through various departments within the organization and its unanimously a negative professional experience.

So, instead of requesting any fans left chill the F out – lets just be appreciative those fans still exist. Sincerely, there’s a lot of reasons to blow the entire club up from top to bottom LA Chivas style. That’s not hyperbole.

      • Thank you old school. I like your post and I tend to agree with you most of the time. Obviously just a frustrated fire fan but something needs to be done. Everybody else seems to be making moves and we seem to be sitting on our hands again. Hope that’s not the case but they have done nothing to prove that it is not.
Mrjc-not only am I a Fire fan, I’m a Cubs fan. Patience is my middle name.

  3. LAG’s season is either going to be an utter disaster, or Bruce is going to win COY for these unusual signings of over-the-hill players. There’s really no in-between…
