Amidst the flurry of MLS news during draft week, NASL has been busy with an offseason of its own. The schedule has been announced and clubs keep making big moves as the reestablished league looks to usher in its most successful season yet.
Here are some recent news and notes from around the league this week:
The league revealed its full 2016 season schedule on Thursday, with the first round of matches kicking off on Saturday, April 2. Miami FC, Puerto Rico FC, and Rayo OKC will all play their inaugural season in 2016. (REPORT)
The New York Cosmos have handed contract extensions to technical staff members Alecko Eskandarian, Carlos Llamosa, Guillermo Valencia, and Luis Gutierrez. The Cosmos have also promoted former assistant sporting director Luke Sassano to technical director. (REPORT)
Canadian international Kyle Porter has joined Ottawa Fury FC from recently suspended franchise the Atlanta Silverbacks. The 25-year-old forward/defender has tallied 14 goals and one assist in 77 NASL matches. (REPORT)
Former New York Red Bulls attacker Jonny Steele has also signed with the Fury. The 29-year-0ld attacking mid from Northern Ireland was most recently with Minnesota United, but only made five appearances in NASL last season. (REPORT)
The Jacksonville Armada have acquired Honduran midfielder Junior Sandoval, who spent last season in Colombia with Jaguares de Cordoba. Sandoval previously spent a number of years in the Atlanta Silverbacks system, scoring seven goals in 24 appearances in 2014. (REPORT)
Jamaican international Lovel Palmer has signed with Indy Eleven, after spending two seasons and making 52 appearances with the Chicago Fire. (REPORT)
Canadian international Nik Legerwood has signed for FC Edmonton following over a decade in Europe. The 30-year-0ld has 45 senior Canadian National Team caps and has most notably played for Germany’s 1860 Munich and Swedish club Hammarby. (REPORT)
