Alejandro Bedoya stays hot with game-winner, assist in Nantes victory

Alejandro Bedoya FC Nantes 22

Whatever has gotten into Alejandro Bedoya in recent weeks is really benefitting FC Nantes.

Bedoya kept his hot-streak going on Wednesday, as he tallied the game-winner and delivered an assist in the first half of Nantes’ 3-1 victory over GFC Ajaccio. The goal was Bedoya’s third in his last four matches across all competitions, and second decisive strike in that stretch of games.

The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder contributed to his team’s opening goal in the 14th minute, touching the ball back to Emiliano Sala for a calm finish. Bedoya then doubled Nantes’ lead nine minutes later, this time alertly picking off a pass before getting on the end of well-worked give-and-go with Sala.

With the win, Nantes jumped to sixth place in the Ligue 1 table. The club sits just two points outside of fourth place and the UEFA Europa League position that comes with it.

  1. Some people have criticized Bedoya in the past as someone who just runs around a lot. It looks like he is a lot more productive now. Good to see.

      • Problem is….we don’t really have anyone of quality at wide midfielder role right now. Our outside mid options are basically:
        1) True Midfielders: Fabian, Gyau (Injured),
        2) Converted forwards: Zardes, Wood, Morris, Kiesewetter, Finlay
        3) Converted CMs: Bedoya, Nagbe, Nyguen, Pulisic (in the near future hopefully), Zusi

Wide players (Backs & Mids) have been few and far between for the US for a while now.

  2. Nice work, Ale! That starting wide midfielder spot opposite Fabian is looking really competitive now:

    -Nagbe
    -Nguyen
    -Bedoya

    Keep it up.

      • This run of form has pretty much come with moving Bedoya to CAM. He hadn’t really been doing much out for Nantes playing out wide.

    • Speaking of that spot. What happened to Joe Gyau? Last I heard of him was last year when he had the knee injury. Has he recovered?

      • The targeted return for Gyau was right about this time. I’ve not seen/heard anything recently but hope we’ll hear something soon…even if it’s back to training.

      • I think he is back to training, if not with the team quite yet. David Wagner, BVB II old manager and now Huddersfield first team manager, wanted to take him out on loan this transfer period, and BVB declined.
