Is this the new USMNT away jersey?

USMNT 2016

A new year might come with a new jersey and a distinctively new look for the U.S. Men’s National Team.

TodoSobreCamisetas.com posted an image of a new U.S. away jersey that will allegedly be worn during this summer’s Copa America Centenario. The jersey is predominantly black with red and blue on the right and left shoulders, respectively, and comes with a new crest that made the rounds in 2015.

While there is no official word on whether this jersey is legit, TodoSobreCamisetas has routinely and accurately unveiled U.S. shirts in the past. Additionally, it has been reported in recent weeks that the U.S. will showcase new jerseys during the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March.

If this is indeed the new away top, it will replace the all blue uniform that the Americans used for much of 2015.

What do you think of this reported new USMNT away jersey? Like the decision to go to black? What are your thoughts on the crest?

  1. Such a generic shirt. To me, the current badge is still the best. The centennial is the worst no matter what others may tell me, and this badge falls somewhere in between. I don’t mind the black, but the sleeves are unacceptable. The 2006 WC Home kits are still my favorite US uniform and the 2013 Away kits are my second. I agree with the notion that we should stick with a recognisable design instead of constantly rotating our jerseys. It suggests a pattern of instability and leaves us with no identity, in my opinion…

  2. Okay, fine, black. Going for a tough, “Raider Nation” vibe. Just slightly better than the black and green (GREEN for god’s sake!?!) USWNT jerseys that came out last summer, like, “Look, we have Mexico jerseys, too!”

  3. Damn..everyone hating so hard right now. I don’t hate the black idea, but maybe that’s because all black looks hard. However, not really feelin the sleeves.

  5. Can we please go back to centennial kits with the classic white shirt, centennial badge and navy/dark blue shorts? I mean it’s not flashy or boundary-pushing in any way, but at least they weren’t embarrassing like the last couple of offerings. Use the “sash style” red kit WeathermanNX01 referred to above (didn’t like it too much at first, it has grown on me as the last couple of new kits have been introduced) as the away duds, and the old standard all-white as the third choice…and then don’t change it until we reach a quarterfinal of a WC, or win a youth NT WC or the Olympics…or until it’s time to start designing a bicentennial crest.

Or, God forbid, they commission the top apparel companies to create potential kits and let the fans vote on the winner. We fans seem to have much better fashion sense than the braintrust over at USSoccer…

  6. USA soccer has really missed the boat on our jersey philosophy, the constant rotation of kits has left the brand unrecognizable. I understand its a money generating scheme but I think it is short sided to go with a new kit every couple of years. we need to have a specific style of Kit and Colors and stick with it, PERIOD. A common style kit would build legacy and create a recognizable brand that would be more easily marketable and red white and mother effin blue and or stars and stripes is a pretty good effin foundation to start from.

    • Completely agree. While not everyone liked the sash style from 2010 (I loved it), it had the makings of something to actually give the U.S. a kit identity (and there are plenty of variations on a sash – LA Galaxy have gone through several now). While things are modified from year to year, all the major countries have an identity – Netherlands is orange, Italy blue, Croatia has the check pattern. We have nothing. It’s a sash one year, bomb pops the next.

  7. Do you own a shirt with sleeves that are different colors from each other and also from the body of the shirt? No? You probably won’t after this cartoon character shirt comes out either.

  8. I don’t mind the design, but I’m not liking all that black. Couldn’t the main torso be red or blue, with one sleeve white and one sleeve blue/red? Okay, maybe that wouldn’t work … I guess I don’t like the design.

I’m also in full agreement with Old School about the crest.

  9. I remember seeing this “leak” last summer. It’s not bad, but it looks like a USA basketball-style crest. Of course, literally anything is better than our current crest.

I have no experience in marketing or anything related, but for the life of me I don’t understand why the US Federation didn’t keep with the centennial crest. I know it’s not scientific data, but based on everything I read on multiple websites, random polls I came across and general response it seemed like an overwhelming favorite of supporters.

Didn’t that centennial crest also get a significant amount of petition signatures too on WhiteHouse.gov as well? There was definitely a movement for it.
