Liverpool-Man United, Dortmund-Tottenham paired in Europa League draw

There is no shortage of spectacular matchups in the UEFA Europa League round of 16.

The draw for the next round was conducted on Friday, and Liverpool-Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund-Tottenham and Villarreal-Bayer Leverkusen, among others, were paired to compete in March.

Man United is coming off an impressive 5-1 (6-3 on aggregate) win against Danish club Midtjylland on Thursday. The Red Devils have defeated the Reds in both Premier League competitions this season by a combined score of 4-1.

Dortmund progressed over Portuguese side FC Porto, 3-0, on aggregate, while Tottenham also easily handled Italian club Fiorentina, 4-1, on aggregate.

  1. Considering that 4-5 “super clubs” are in the 1/4 and 1/2 final stages of the CL every year, the EL is a breath of fresh air.

    I love watching Barcelona like the next guy, and the MSN are out of this world, but every year, it’s the same old Barca, Real, Bayern combo fighting for the CL trophy. Heck, Juventus being the “upset” finalist last season says a lot about what the CL has become…even PSG and Man City cannot compete with the Big 3 of Europe…
