MLS Ticker: Van der Vaart, Martins, TAG Heuer partnership and more

The field has reportedly been narrowed for the services of a Dutchman, while MLS announced a new partnership on Monday.

Sporting Kansas City has once again been reported as the potential destination for Rafael van der Vaart, who currently plies his trade in La Liga for Real Betis. The report says the 33-year-old Dutch midfielder is ready to move on from the club. (REPORT)

Obafemi Martins moved from the Seattle Sounders to Shanghai Shenhua for a reported $2 million transfer fee, and the Nigerian forward will reportedly earn almost double the salary he received with the MLS side. He is expected to earn $6.6 million with the Chinese club. (REPORT)

TAG Heuer announced a new long-term partnership with the league on Monday. The watch manufacturer will become the official timekeeper of MLS as well as U.S. Soccer. (REPORT)

The Portland Timbers pounded NASL club Minnesota United, 4-0, in the 2016 Simple Invitational on Sunday. Fanendo Adi, Darlington Nagbe, Lucas Melano and Diego Valeri each scored a goal to lead the MLS Cup champions to victory. (REPORT)

  1. van der vaart was rubbish at Hamburg. He spent more time in the tabloids than doing anything productive on the field. MLS would be better off without him.

    • SKC isnt signing him. They have the one of the best attacking mids in the league who does the other work that Vermes requires in his system, RVDV would be a pricey back-up and doesnt make much sense in terms of what SKC does, both on the field and in the market.
