The Chinese Super League has made headlines recently for its massive spending spree on high-profile players around Europe, and now a star attacker from MLS is reportedly receiving interest.
According to ESPN FC, Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins has attracted significant attention from multiple Chinese clubs.
The report also states that Martins isn’t the only MLS player drawing interest from China; however, it didn’t provide any further specifics.
Chinese teams are allowed to have up to five foreign players, including one from Asia. Therefore, four of the league’s 16 sides would be able to currently pursue Martins. While the European transfer window has since closed, the Chinese Super League has until Feb. 26 to finalize player deals.
The 31-year-old forward has scored 40 goals for the Sounders since joining the side in 2013. Martins has also represented the Nigerian national team, scoring 18 goals in 41 matches and appearing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
What do you think of this report? Should the Sounders sell Martins if they have the opportunity?

The Chinese league is just spending crazy amounts of money. Qatar has been doing something similar just not on as many players. Both leagues are spending in order to try and become relevant in world football. Qatar has gone so far as to grant citizenship to players in order to improve their national team.
Non-native-born players on a National team – the horror! We would never…….
If Seattle gets over $8million = great deal for Seattle!
Half of the Brazilian domestic league seems to have moved to China, crazy they money they are throwing around. The Chinese second division outspent every league in Europe except the EPL and the first division outspent the EPL by miles.
The amount of transfer fees that league is throwing around seems insane. If they want to throw silly money at MLS/Sounders for Martins, I say cash in.
Not a Sounders fan but I hold on to him until the Summer and see how Morris is progressing. Then maybe you can sell Martins, free a DP spot and fill another need.
Agree, at the very least, keep him for the CCL against Club America and then release him. Hope they get more than 5 million USD for him.
