After a stint with the Columbus Crew, U.S. youth international Romain Gall has completed a move to Europe.

The 21-year-old midfielder has joined Nyköpings BIS of the Swedish first division, according to the team’s official website.

Gall began his professional playing career in France, after signing with Ligue 1 side Lorient’s reserve team. While with the Crew from 2014 to 2015, Gall made three appearances for the club, before being loaned out to Austin Aztex of USL. He was released by the Crew in February, prior to the start of the new MLS season.

Additionally, Gall was a key member of the U.S. Under-20 national team over the last two years, scoring 13 goals in 25 appearances.

The 2016 Swedish Allsvenskan season kicks off for Nyköpings on April 16 when they face Vasalund.

What do you think of Gall’s move to Sweden? Would he have been better suited in the U.S.?

  1. He had a trial with NYCFC after being released from the Crew and didn’t stick there either. That Ramos left him off the U20 WC roster was also quite telling after winning the Golden Boot in the qualifying tournament.

  2. Good for him..I am hoping he gets a good season under his belt and gets back to form that he had with the u20’s. It helps that they have an American Coach on staff there. I feel he has the potential to be a good pro

    • Good point – the “first division” in Sweden is actually the third tier (like how League One is the third tier in England). Initially I thought this might be a good move but that fact certainly changes things.

    • Berhalter on Gall:
“I’m not too pleased with how that ended up,” he said. “I thought he had potential. We just weren’t able to get it out of him, in terms of how he was going to fit in our system. Part of that is coaching, and we’ll take responsibility for that. But I thought there was a lot to work with, and I’m just a little bit disappointed with how it ended up.”

Hopefully he can find his way in Sweden. He showed well with the U-20s.
