Tab Ramos has named a diverse roster for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team’s first tournament of 2016.
Manchester United’s Matthew Olosunde, University of California goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann and Liverpool midfielder Brooks Lennon headline a 22-player roster for the upcoming Dallas Cup. The U.S. is set to take on CF Monterrey Rayados, Fulham and Hoffenheim in group play between March 20-23.
“The Dallas Cup will provide us a great opportunity to see all of these players in meaningful international games,” said Ramos. “We will see which players stand out and what combination of players work well together as we build towards U-20 WC Qualifying in early 2017.”
Lennon, John Nelson and Sebastian Saucedo are the only three players named to the squad that did not feature in the team’s January camp, which featured two wins over local club teams.
The U.S. will be using the Dallas Cup as preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Men’s Championship, which will be held in Nicaragua next winter.
Here’s a closer look at the U.S. U-20 roster:
GOALKEEPERS: Jonathan Klinsmann (University of California; Newport Beach, Calif.), JT Marcinkowski (Georgetown; Alamo, Calif.)

What do you think of the U.S. roster? Who are you most excited to see?

Looking at the roster from an MLS perspective, it seems a little disappointing. Only three of the players are from MLS academies. Any idea on the number of college players that might be considered homegrowns?
Euro Leagues are off so not much reason to keep the youngsters around, and MLS is just starting so may not want to pull them out at this time if they can help it and the college kids are mostly on Spring Break so bring them in instead.
It could be that Christian Pulisic, and CCV, EPB and maybe a select few others (kyle scott?) are set to be on other teams(Olympic/Senior).
I doubt it. This is a friendly tourney and meaningless. CCV is currently the 3rd choice natural CB at Tottenham (4th choice likely though; they’d probably play Dier at CB ahead of him).
EPB just played the last 2 games for Porto II. First game was apparently horrible, but seemed like he was nervous, cause supposedly he played like a rock in the second, and helped keep a clean sheet. (Great opportunity for him to learn at one of the best developmental clubs)
Pulisic is Pulisic. Biding his time until his next first team callup. Him and CCV are the only ones I could see being called up to U-23’s.
And Kyle Scott is an integral part of Chelsea’s U-21’s (captains them on many occasions), and just scored a goal for Chelsea’s U-21’s against Ajax in Youth UCL. I hope Tab doesn’t drop the ball with him, cuz he is eligible for England & Ireland. It’d be good competition to add to the #8 position, and keep guys like Hyndman, Zelalem, etc. on their toes.
I’m actually surprised guys like Perez, Lennon, and Olosunde were released.
Really? No one has…alright…I will do it….HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH I didn’t even know I was on the team until I was on the team HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Obviously he wasn’t released, but still it is interesting this article makes no reference to Pulisic, arguably the biggest star in this age group.
Hey Klinsmann and Herzog!! Give us the rosters already!! We will probably have to wait until Monday, March 21st to get the rosters for the USMNT and US u-23. I am impatiently waiting to see what they look like.
I had the same thought.
I’m excited to see the rosters too….Jurgen tends to release the rosters at the 25th hour, probably safe to assume this time will be no different.
