The start of the 21st season in MLS is just a few days away, and most teams will be running around with a brand-new look.
Almost all 20 MLS teams officially revealed a new jersey ahead of the 2016 season, with the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas being the only two exceptions. FC Dallas will unveil its new kit on Thursday night, while the Rapids have planned an event for March 10. Both jerseys have reportedly been leaked, though.
Some of the new kits caused quite a stir in some cities, including Columbus. The Crew received some backlash for their new jersey, which was inspired by the city’s flag. Yet, they took the criticism on the chin and posted a must-see response video (watch below).
The Houston Dynamo’s all-black jersey received plenty of praise from its supporters, while Sporting Kansas City and New York City FC also released an intriguing kit admired by many. Five-time MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy have kept their iconic sash, but used both gold and blue in the diagonal line across the chest.
The defending MLS Cup champions also revealed its new away jersey, which features a tonal fade of red hoops on the front of the jersey over a black base.

I think it’s time to fire Adidas. Most are fairly ugly
I like em. Bring on the matches now please. The offseason has been long enough.
NE Revs look a little too similar to PSG for me — why the change? They seemed to have a pretty good brand-recognition by now.
Also, no article on MLS kits is complete without a link to the original 1996 kits, for comparison. 🙂
Except for Columbus, I generally like all of these. I, however, think that MLS should do away with white as an option.
I know most of these are away or third kits, but really it’s a shame that most clubs are getting away from their core identity. If Crew never play in banana kits (maybe the best looking in the league) or TFC in all red, or Quakes in all blue, or DC in all black, then it just looks off and hurts the brand identities.
Props to Galaxy (pains me to say it) for the best looking of this bunch, and RSL, Fire, also have classic looks. And Impact and Revs will look good on the field–both have a French look.
Not a fan of the different colored sleeves on a lot of these kits. That has a distinct EPL bottom-of-the table (West Ham, Aston Villa) look to it. And whaddya know, Rapids are leading that charge, will be bottom of the table once again…
Except for the fact that they all have the 3 stripes down the side, I’m seeing a lot of diverse designs, which is cool. I’ve never been one to buy kits, but these are looking sharp and my 9 year old will be salivating. Even though I’m a LAG fan, gotta give props to Seattle for the best kits. those are really sharp.
Top to bottom, these are the most modern and attractive collection of kits I’ve seen from MLS. I like the variety of colors and designs. the MLS badge is totally cool in some of these combinations particularly the OC Purple and Gold.
