U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team goalkeeper Cody Cropper will see some important minutes in the English Championship in the coming weeks.
Cropper will be the starting goalkeeper for Milton Keynes Dons for the remainder of the club’s 2015-16 season, as first-choice netminder David Martin will be sidelined with a fractured hand.
“Cody came in as the number 2 but he’s the number 1 now and he has to take that opportunity,” MK Dons manager Karl Robinson said. “I’ve got tremendous faith in him – he’s a good young goalkeeper.”
The 23-year-old has earned four league starts this campaign for MK Dons, which currently sits in the drop zone in the Championship. Four points behind fourth-to-last Fulham on the table, MK Dons only has seven games left to avoid relegation.
What do you think of this development? Glad to see Cropper earn more minutes? What do you expect from him in 2016?

We have 3 great young prospects for the next USMNT Keeper…
1) Horvath – Already secured his place as his teams 1st choice keeper. Getting experience in Champions/Europa league competitions.
2) Cropper – Jumps to 2nd with this news that he’s going to be the #1 for MK for the remainder of the season. Hopefully they stay in the Championship…and next year he retains the starting job
3) Steffen – Great keeper but a bit behind the other 2 at this point. He’s made the bench a few times, and has been playing with the 2nd team but needs to make that next step in order to continue progressing.
Overall the US seems to continue to develop really good keepers. We appear to be in good shape for the next 10+ yrs.
MK Dons staying up could be a tall order: they’re seven points from safety with only six games left. Almost as tall an order as Horvath winning the hair loss race.
It’s interesting how many American-raised (and eligible) GKs Mexico keeps calling in. They just called in *another* FC Dallas GK into their U18 camp.
He is well on his way to becoming the next great American bald keeper.
…its why I don’t trust Horvath!! His hair is WAAAAY too great to be a good keeper. 😉
Horvath is still young, it’s not a race to baldness to be in contention for the No. 1 jersey…but if it were a race, Cropper is in the lead by a mile, no doubt.
Great news hope he does well. Always liked what I’ve seen from him.
