Saturday proved to be a spectacular day for Emerson Hyndman for a few different reasons.
Not only did the American midfielder celebrate his 20th birthday, but he also started, played 90 minutes and scored the game-winning goal for Fulham in a 2-1 win against Cardiff City.
The goal — which was scored deep into second-half stoppage time — was Hyndman’s first professional goal for the club, and it helped Fulham earn three crucial points as it attempts to avoid the English Championship relegation zone.
In the 93rd minute, Fulham kept the pressure on after Cardiff City was unable to fully clear the ball following a corner kick. Lasse Christensen broke into penalty area from the right and slipped a short pass to Hyndman, who fired in his first competitive goal for the club at Craven Cottage. The U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team midfielder also completed 84 percent of his passes on the day.
Fulham moves 10 points clear of the relegation zone with the win.

Jokanovi said in an interview like 2 weeks ago the reason Hyndman wasn’t playing was because he didn’t think battling relegation was good for a players development at Hyndman age. I thought getting first team mins was how a player develops.
When your other players at that position are 21,23 and 24 and all have more experience and equivalent talent at this point are you going to develop the 19/20 year old that you are likely going to face next year or the guys that are going to be on your team.

My thought process if I was Hyndman: “F–k off and best of luck in the Championship. I’ll work on my strength in the top division when I leave the club on a free transfer.“
Would not worry too much about Hyndman’s future.Good clubs track good players and know the real reason players are buried/benched when they don’t re-sign with a club.
Seems clear to me that he was good enough to be starting for that side all season. It’s a shame the manager/club decided to bury him just because he turned down their extension. So foolish and shortsighted by a team plagued by foolish, shortsightedness. It’s telling that they play him now when they are desperate for points. Too bad EH had to lose a year of development because of this club.
We don’t like it because he’s an American, but if your Fulham and you have Lasse Vigen Christensen and Kacaniklic who play essentially the same position, same age, and rated about the same (Kacaniklic has 19 full caps for Sweden and Vigen scored 5 goals last year to EH’s 0) why would you play the kid that isn’t coming back. Hyndman hasn’t shown that he’s significantly better than those two at this point in his career. We criticize because we know Hyndman although most of us have only seen his youth games or his Nat cameo. Fulhamerica is a nickname its not actually in England to benefit American players.

Nice work Hyndman! What a crap show at Fulham. Too bad, I actually like that stadium and neighborhood. It doesn’t hurt that my friends live within walking distance of Craven Cottage and the park & river next to it. Beautiful site.
