Tim Howard’s Everton career is nearing its end, and the U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper will spend his final games as the team’s goalkeeper on the field.
Everton announced on Friday that Howard will start the club’s final two home games of the club’s Premier League season. Howard, who is set to join the Colorado Rapids this summer, will start against Bournemouth and Norwich City, while Joel Robles will be in net for games at Leicester City and Sunderland.
“In our last two home games of the season we will be able to honor and acknowledge the outstanding contribution and unforgettable role that Tim Howard has made to our football club in the last 10 seasons,” said Everton manager Roberto Martinez.
“Tim will be joining Colorado Rapids at the end of the season but his legacy will live on for many years in the work that he’s done not just on the pitch but in helping young players to understand just what it means and what it takes to be an Everton player. We wish him well and he’ll be a true blue ambassador wherever he is.”
Howard, who has made 412 appearances for the club, has been relegated to the bench in recent months in favor of Robles. The pair of appearances will be Howard’s first since a Jan. 24 clash with Swansea.
