Americans Abroad: Weekend Rewind

Tim Howard played his final match for Everton on Sunday, playing a role in a resounding victory over Norwich City as he wrapped up a 13-year stint in the English Premier League.

In the final match of the EPL season, Howard said goodbye to the Everton faithful at Goodison Park after a decade with the club. Two of his compatriots in the English top flight, DeAndre Yedlin and Geoff Cameron, ended their season strong by earning results, while another two failed to see the field in Matt Chelsea’s Miazga and Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Timmy Chandler came onto the field in Bremen on Saturday with his Eintracht Frankfurt team still fighting relegation, but they ultimately fell short. Chandler will now face off against his old club, Nurnberg, with a spot in the Bundesliga awaiting the victor.

The first round of Liga MX playoffs wrapped up, with a number of Americans vying to become champions of the 2016 Clausura. William Yarbrough made four saves to help pull Club Leon past Morelia in the second leg on Saturday. Omar Gonzalez and Jorge Villafana will go head to head on Sunday night, after drawing 1-1 in the first leg at Santos Laguna.

  1. Great to hear Rubio Rubin got back on the field after missing so much time with injury. Utrecht is now in a Thursday/Sunday playoff for a Europa League spot, so he may not be called in for the Puerto Rico friendly.

  2. So much for JK’s hope Bobby Wood score in his final outing I guess Union didn’t want to risk an injury and a loss of 3.5 million.
