In the lone suspension from Week 12, the MLS Disciplinary Committee has handed down a one-match ban to Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza.

Espinoza earned himself the suspension during Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat against Real Salt Lake in the 85th minute, after tackling Sunny to the ground in an off-ball situation. The 29-year-old will sit out the Sporting KC’s next match on Friday night vs. D.C. United.

The Sporting KC midfielder was later handed down a yellow card in second-half stoppage time for a late challenge on Juan Manuel Martínez.

Espinoza has also been fined an undisclosed amount by MLS for his violent conduct.

Additionally, the Disciplinary Committee has also alerted four teams for violating the league’s Mass Confrontation Policy. New York City FC, the New York Red Bulls, Orlando City and the Montreal Impact were each involved in heated altercations during their Week 12 matchups, sparking MLS’ intervention.

  1. What about that unnecessary shove from behind on an RSL player right before the last whistle was blown? SKC and RSL have exchanged rough plays for the last 3-4 years. This year the dirty stuff that stands out are being committed by frustrated skc players. Espinozas fouls, last play shove and that ridiculous mauling of keeper attinella from the first meeting between this year.
