The Eastern Conference has proven to be anything but predictable this season, and the Philadelphia Union are taking full advantage of that fact.
The East-leading Union will travel to South Florida on Wednesday night to take on Kaka and Orlando City SC, after capturing a narrow 2-1 victory at Talon Energy Stadium back in April.
Both sides come into the matchup riding respective wins at home, but it’s the Union that have continued to take MLS by storm, taking points in their last five matches. The biggest challenge for the road side may not be whom they’re playing though, but instead where they are playing.
In 2016, the Union have dazzled in front of their home fans, boasting a 4-0-2 mark in Chester, while their road form has seen the side take just four out of a possible 15 points.
Orlando, currently sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference, remains unbeaten at home this season (2-0-4). Second-year forward Cyle Larin paces the side with six goals and two assists, while Brazilian playmaker Kaka has added two finishes to go along with his four assists.
A victory for Orlando on Wednesday could see the Lions jump all the way up to second place in the congested Eastern Conference, while the Union can begin to gain some separation at the top if they are to pull out the three points.
The two sides will be back in action this weekend when the Union travel west to meet the league-leading Colorado Rapid and Orlando City squares off with New York City FC on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
Who will come out on top in Wednesday’s lone matchup? Which player(s) will get their name on the scoresheet?
