While fan voting for the 2016 MLS All-Star Game continues until early July, one question was answered in regards to what the MLS players will be wearing.
On Friday, adidas released the jersey for the July 28 showdown against Premier League side Arsenal, which will be played at the San Jose Earthquakes’ Avaya Stadium.
In a photo shoot with Soccer Bible, adidas released the unique design, which features special influences from the host city of San Jose.
On the back of the jersey, there are three stars commemorating MLS’ slogan, club, country and community. The inside collar features aspects of both the American and Canadian national flags, while a small patch at the bottom of the jersey displays three Redwood trees and says “All Star San Jose 2016.”
Looks like something from the 80’s. You can argue, all day long, whether or not we should play this game. But you can’t argue about this jersey. It is FUGLEY! Embarrassing. MLS and US Soccer must get paid to allow the crap our teams play in.
A non-story (clothing) about a non-event (schedule-busting exhibition). Meaningless upon meaningless. When the EPL agrees to host an MLS side in an exhibition in February so the MLS side can get in shape and sell some jerseys, I’ll start watching these things.

Fugly. Instead of incorporating all these goofy elements whose meaning is so obscure it must be explained — defeating the point of visual symbolism — why not just make something nice with obvious imagery.
…or get rid of this sham entirely.
It’s harmless and every so often results in a visiting player liking the league and coming back to play here. We have gotten rid of the truly dumb stuff like shootouts. Not interested in rote imitation of Europe.
It’s not harmless. It helps to congest the rest of the schedule and shouts to the world that MLS will suspend normal operations just to have the privilege of hosting a famous foreign club, and will then trumpet its insecurity by placing undue emphasis on the result of a match that the visitors correctly treat as a pre-season scrimmage.
Yeah that is not flattering.
