On a night where chances were hard to come by, the LA Galaxy made the most of their early opportunity to find the back of the net.

Raul Mendiola’s finish in the fifth minute gave the Galaxy a 1-0 win against the Portland Timbers in the U.S. Open Cup, setting up a quarterfinals matchup against the Seattle Sounders on July 20.

The 22-year-old received a bouncing ball at the top of the box, before comfortably side-footing his effort into the far corner past goalkeeper Wade Hamilton.

The Timbers had no shortage of chances on the night, but only mustered up one shot on goal, making things relatively easy for Clement Diop and the Galaxy backline.

MAN OF THE MATCH

With a lineup that featured several Homegrown players for the Galaxy, Raul Mendiola starred over his hour on the field, netting the game-winning finish in the process.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

The Galaxy only posted three shots on goal on Wednesday night, but Raul Mendiola’s finish was enough to give Bruce Arena’s side a place in the quarterfinals.

MATCH TO FORGET

Jack McInerney and the Timbers attack simply couldn’t break down the Galaxy when it mattered most, tallying just one shot on target over the 90 minutes.
