Indy Eleven captures NASL Spring Season title

After two years of disappointing results that did not match the rabid support for the team off the pitch, Indy Eleven have earned their first title.

The Indianapolis-based  franchise officially won the NASL Spring Season on Sunday, after essentially clinching it Saturday evening with a handed 4-1 victory over the Carolina RailHawks in front of their home fans.

The short Spring Season was tightly contended this year, with only three points separating the top six teams after all 10 matches. In fact, the New York Cosmos had the same number of points, goals for and goals against. Indy’s home victory over the Cosmos in April is all that separated the two sides.

The Eleven have been rebuilding since December in an effort to make a push for the 2016 Soccer Bowl. Outgoing GM Peter Wilt and new President Jeff Belskus have been working hard to add talent to the squad, from MLS veterans to foreign diamonds-in-the-rough.

Eamon Zayed came into the team and scored six crucial goals. Jon Busch and Lovel Palmer both joined from the Chicago Fire to stabilize the defense, which helped the team stay undefeated this spring.

As a result of winning the Spring Title, Indy automatically gets a spot in the post-season and will host a semifinal match.
