D.C. United has been struggling for goals in recent weeks, but on Saturday, a pair of beautiful finishes led the way in a much-needed win.

Lamar Neagle and Sean Franklin provided a goal apiece, leading D.C. United to a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night at RFK Stadium. The win sees D.C. United leapfrog the opposition with their 20th point, while the Revs remain on 19.

D.C. United struck first through Neagle, who pushed the hosts into the lead in the 20th minute with a spectacular volleyed finish. On the receiving end of a chipped pass from Luciano Acosta, Neagle rocketed a shot first-time, leaving Brad Knighton no chance to parry away the volleyed effort.

A counter attacking opportunity produced D.C United’s second, with Neagle providing the assist. After breaking down the right side, Neagle crossed a low ball into the center and into the path of Sean Franklin. The fullback rocketed a shot off the crossbar and in, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead just 27 minutes in.

From there, it was largely smooth sailing, although Bill Hamid was called upon to make a pair of saves, the best of which came on a close range stop of Lee Nguyen just moments into the second half.

D.C. United returns to action on Friday against Real Salt Lake, while the Revs look to bounce back on Wednesday in a U.S. Open Cup clash with the New York Cosmos.

MAN OF THE MATCH

With a goal and an assist on the night, Lamar Neagle was D.C.’s biggest standout in what was one of the team’s better performances of their season.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

As spectacular as it was important, Neagle’s 20th minute goal set the tone for what became an important win for D.C. United.

MATCH TO FORGET

Normally very capable, Chris Tierney was at fault for both D.C. United goals in what was a poor performance from the Revs defender.
