Miami FC’s spending spree is set to continue with the signing of another familiar face.
Multiple sources tell SBI that Gabriel Farfan is the latest player to join a Miami FC team currently in the midst of a mid-season rebuild. The 28-year-old midfielder/left back most recently featured for the New York Cosmos, who he joined on loan from Liga MX side Chiapas FC. Farfan will join Miami FC on a free transfer after negotiating a settlement with Chiapas.
Farfan was only signed with the Cosmos through the Spring Season, and sources tell SBI that the reigning NASL champions did enter negotiations with the former Philadelphia Union and Chivas USA player. However, Miami FC proved aggressive in negotiations as they attempt to reconstruct a roster that finished last in the NASL Spring Season.
To date, Miami FC has already begun an aggressive rebuilding process unlike any in NASL history. A reportedly record-breaking transfer fee of $750,000 for midfielder Richie Ryan began the process and was soon followed by the acquisition of Philadelphia Union midfielder Michael Lahoud, who was on loan with the Cosmos at that point. Most recently, Miami FC has reportedly bolstered their roster with the addition New York City FC midfielder Kwadwo Poku for a transfer fee of over $700,000.
While with the Cosmos, Farfan made four appearances and three starts while scoring one goal and adding an assist. A former U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team regular, the 28-year-old featured in 18 matches for Chiapas after spending three seasons in MLS.
Miami FC kicks off the fall season on Saturday with a visit to to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

All the losers and discards find their way into MLS.
I think the problem is with the front office, haven’t been very good a their job marketing the team or PR wise. The team needs to be better to fill the stands, but the office needs to market better.

Soon, more than likely after this NASL season. Some other neat upgrades to the stadium as well…
I’ve saw them play few weeks ago on tv against Ottawa. Miami FC’s problem is not the midfield, but upfront with an great, but aging player (Cvitanich) who needs someone younger to work hard off the ball with, to defuse the pressure away from him.
It doesn’t help that they play on an artificial surface when they have many older players and hard for them to control the game since ball moves too fast to control it. Come on, of all the places you can grow natural grass, you chose a place with artificial turf?
Ditto on the artificial turf comment. No reason for any team to voluntarily subject it’s players on fake turf. And I’ve heard grass can grow just fine in Miami. They ought to move to a stadium with real grass. Say no to fake turf!
