It’s quite simple for the U.S. Men’s National Team on Tuesday night; a win or tie will keep their 2016 Copa America Centenario journey alive. On the other hand, a second straight loss would officially eliminate the hosts.
Jurgen Klinsmann opted to remain with the same starting XI that went out in the USMNT’s 2-0 loss to Colombia on Friday night, and that group of players will be tasked with conquering a familiar CONCACAF foe in Costa Rica.
If the U.S.’ starters continue to struggle to make an impact, expect to see Darlington Nagbe and Christian Pulisic again as the first two players off the bench.
Los Ticos will make one change on the night, starting Francisco Calvo over the suspended Kendall Waston. The Vancouver Whitecaps defender was sent off in the dying minutes of Costa Rica’s 0-0 tie against Paraguay.

I’ll admit when I was wrong. Dempsey and Jones have been fantastic. 4-3-3 was working well for us. Still don’t like wood and Zardes as wingers. But Dempsey has been solid as a #9 so far.
Zardes still sucks. He works hard. But he’s not an international caliber player.
Costa Rica on the front foot for now early in the 2nd. Won’t be long before we need to make some changes to regain the momentum.
Disagree with Dempsey. Jones goal was all because Dempsey lost the ball while attempting to shoot the ball. the 4-3-3 would be a lot better with Wood in his role

Midweek, even with an 7:00 start, looked more full in the 2nd half so I think some where late arriving. You could buy the three games in a package so some fans of other teams may not have sold their tickets for tonight.

It’s happened nationally. Wether in formation or just during play they switched. He’d be great on the left cutting in to shoot with a crossing winger on the right (Pulisic). So as crosses came in from the right, you have wood flashing near post, Jozy trailing far post. If the attack goes to the left you have jozy looking to combine with wood and Nagbe/other AM etc. and he’s plenty serviceable at crossing even wth his left. He needs to go back to his NYRB roots at lw–slashing in facing goal. He’s got the power to beat nearpoaf and the ability to hit the far corner as well.

He’s not trying to rush them into things. I see one starting vs Paraguay possibly. Their minutes have progressed normally considering all factors.

I’m happy were sticking with the same line-up, although I wouldn’t have minded seeing Nagbe in the middle three.
I’m not wishy washy on this. I’ve been saying Dempsey needs to be dropped for a while now. Nagbe and Pulisic need to start. Zardes is awful; jones and Bradley can’t play together. The 4-3-3 doesn’t suit Wood and Dempsey. It showed vs Colombia. Hopefully we can find a way to win it tonight, but this was not a good lineup in game one, and it isn’t tonight either
I’m fine with the line up partially, I have never been a Zardes fan due to his horrendous touch. Dempsey disappears for far too much of the game and is overly selfish. He had a few chances last game but also cost what would have been a great one for Pulisic. Once again it would also be nice to see Johnson play in his best position instead of rotting at left back, and yes I am aware he is our best, but maybe if we had some semblance of an attack we wouldn’t have to depend on our defense so much.
The good news is that if we get bounced after two two games in a regional tournament maybe JK will get axed. Gives new coach time to get set for WC.

I’m a huge Nagbe fan, this is his tournament to go from sub to starter but you can’t blame a coach for not starting him after only the first game. I see Nagbe subbing in today for an influence then hopefully with a win he can start vs Paraguay, then assuming he plays well there he remains a starter somehow. But just coming out and hating on the coach for using the same roster (going against his usual form that fuels the fire) makes no sense. Let Nagbe grow into it as he seems to be.
Let’s see what happens today. It’s going to be interesting. Btw, Mexico is unstoppable. I can see a final Mexico vs. Argentina. It would be a delight to watch. Now, of course I want our USMNT to be there, however impossible.
