With both Copa American and Euro 2016 all wrapped up, Major League Soccer regains most of the attention in the soccer world this weekend.

Headlining this weekend’s contests will be a Cascadia showdown between the Portland Timbers and the Seattle Sounders. Both sides are under the playoff line at the moment but intense action is to be expected anytime these two clubs square off.

Also getting national coverage will be a fixture between two of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference when the Philadelphia Union welcome the New York Red Bulls. The visitors will be playing their second game of the week after they got back to their winning ways on Wednesday with a 2-0 result at home against Orlando City SC, while the hosts are coming off a 3-0 win over D.C. United last Saturday.

The conference leaders New York City FC and FC Dallas, meanwhile, will take on the Montreal Impact on the road and Chicago Fire at home, respectively.

  1. Thinks it’s probably a bit of wishful thinking to believe that MLS has the attention of most of the soccer world this weekend. I’d guess that at this time of year most of the soccer world’s attention is on things besides soccer.

    • Might want to ring up Fox and ask them why are they putting the Sounders vs Timbers on national tv and broadcasting at 12:30 Pacific time?
Clyde, contrary to your soccer world, it is a big deal in the Pacific Northwest. It has been for a while and will continue to be a big deal for a long time to come

    • Get the FotMob app. It will show you that there are plenty of leagues around the world playing regular season soccer this weekend.

It is nice to think about Sky Sports showing MLS now though, so there may be a good handful of brits getting their MLS on….
