Americans Abroad: Wednesday Preview

Fabian Johnson and Borussia Monchengladbach return for a crucial UEFA Champions League playoff, while the English League Cup could see the club debut of a young American midfielder.

After sealing a 3-1 advantage in the opening leg, Monchengladbach faces off with Young Boys in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League playoff. Johnson won’t be the only American facing continental competition, though, as Omar Salgado, Jose Torres and Tigres UANL take on Plaza Amador on Wednesday night in CONCACAF Champions League play.

In England, Emerson Hyndman could be in line for his Bournemouth debut on Wednesday against Morcambe. The midfielder has been out of action due to an ankle injury and has missed the club’s first two games of the Premier League season. However, manager Eddie Howe says that he expects Hyndman to be “a very exciting player” for the club as he reaches full fitness.

Elsewhere, Tim Ream could face off with Brad Guzan as Fulham takes on Middlesbrough, while Jorge Villafana and Ventura Alvarado could each feature in Copa MX action.
