European leagues continue to ease into play, and while the Bundesliga has yet to join them, the large contingent of German-based Americans Abroad will look to see the field in domestic cup action.
As the Premier League rolls into its second week, Lynden Gooch could see his second straight start with Sunderland following last week’s loss to Manchester City. The 20-year-old midfielder was the lone American to see the field during the Premier League’s opening weekend, and a repeat start for the Black Cats could see Gooch match up with Brad Guzan in Sunday’s clash with Middlesbrough. In other English action, Geoff Cameron could make his season debut against Manchester City while Chesterfield’s Gboly Ariyibi will look to build on last week’s assist as his side takes on Shrewsbury in League One play.
German soccer sees the DFB-Pokal take centerstage, giving several Americans the opportunity to feature throughout the weekend. Aron Johannsson may be in line to make his competitive return after more than a year away when Werder Bremen takes on Sportfreunde Lotte while Julian Green could see the field for Bayern Munich’s match against FC Carl Zeiss Jena.
Liga MX also features several interesting matchups as Omar Gonzalez and Pachuca face Jose Torres, Luis Silva and Tigres. Elsewhere, Miguel Ibarra, William Yarbrough and Leon face Jonathan Bornstein and Luis Gil’s Queretaro, while the Tijuana contingent face off with Necaxa.
