It’s only been a week since Matt Miazga joined Dutch club Vitesse on loan from Chelsea, but he’s already feeling comfortable in his new environment.

The U.S. international participated in his second training session on Wednesday, when he was interviewed by VitesseTV about his new team, his move from the New York Red Bulls and his development.

“I’m very happy to be here,” said Miazga. “When the opportunity came up to join Vitesse, I was very happy and excited… I want to get on the pitch as soon as possible to help the team.”

Miazga earned just two appearances for Chelsea following his January transfer from MLS, a move that the defender admits was a “historical” deal.

“At that time it was a very historical transfer,” Miazga said. “Because going from MLS to a massive club like Chelsea, I was the first one to do that. Now I want to further my development here and establish myself professionally.”

The defender was linked with a loan move to the likes of Sunderland and Espanyol before leaving England for the Netherlands. The loan could benefit Miazga, as several Chelsea players have enjoyed successful spells with the Dutch side, including Nemanja Matic.

Even though it’s only been a matter of days since Miazga’s move was complete, the 21-year-old is already looking forward to capitalizing on his opportunity.

“My personal goal is for any club that I play for, anytime I am on the field, I want to win games. I want to contribute to the club and hopefully we can attain as many wins as possible and shoot for European football.”

    • Living in Europe, around people with varying accents, really does weird things to the way you talk. People subconsciously change their speech to fit in with those around them. I have a relative who lives in Europe and they have developed a weird accent to their English.

Yes, Tim Howard going midseason to ManU and becoming the first team keeper and being named to the Premier League Team of the Year his first year, doesn’t really count because you were eight when it happened.
