Americans Abroad Tuesday Rewind: Wood, Johnson, Wooten score; Carter-Vickers starts and more

A trio of Americans brought a goalscoring touch to Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal action.

Bobby Wood scored a pair of goals while Fabian Johnson and Andrew Wooten also found the back of the net in German cup action. Wood’s two goals were his third and fourth of the season, making up nearly all of Hamburg’s five goals across all competitions. Johnson, who added an assist as well, led the way in a 2-0 win over Stuttgart, while Wooten scored in Sandhausen’s thrilling penalty kick win over Freiburg.

The action was a bit tamer in England, but only on the goalscoring front. Cameron Carter-Vickers started and went a full 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool, while DeAndre Yedlin played a full match in Newcastle’s 6-0 beatdown of Preston North End. Finally, there was Gedion Zelalem, who earned a cameo appearance in Arsenal’s win over Reading.
