Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Johnson, Chandler, Pulisic and more

Midweek action proved wildly successful for plenty of Americans Abroad, but now league play returns as matches kick off this weekend.

While Friday’s slate is a small one, it does include a Bundesliga clash between Fabian Johnson and Timmy Chandler. Both are entering the weekend in solid form, with Johnson scoring midweek while Chandler continues to shine defensively against Germany’s elite. In other Bundesliga action, Christian Pulisic looks to return from an illness as Borussia Dortmund hosts Schalke, while Bobby Wood will try to build off a two-goal performance as Hamburg faces Cologne on Sunday. There’s also the case of Julian Green, who is riding high with Bayern Munich after scoring his first competitive goal midweek.

The bulk of Americans Abroad take the field on Saturday, including Matt Miazga, who seems to have secured a more regular spot in the Vitesse lineup. Recent U.S. Men’s National Team call-ups Lynden Gooch, DeAndre Yedlin and Danny Williams are also in action, with the latter facing Eric Lichaj and Nottingham Forest.

Finally, Sunday’s action is busier than usual with Wood and John Brooks leading the way. Norwegian action also presents an interesting clash of Americans as Ethan Horvath, Josh Gatt and Molde host Cole Grossman and Stabaek.
