Americans Abroad Saturday Rewind: Johnsen, Chandler, Yarbrough and more

BjornJohnsen

Most of the familiar Americans Abroad had poor days on Saturday, but several stepped up with standout performances.

Leading the way was Perry Kitchen and Hearts teammate Bjorn Johnsen, the latter of whom scored two goals in a rampant win for the Scottish club. Kitchen was credited with a secondary assist on Johnsen’s first goal of the match.

Also on the scoresheet was Scunthorpe United’s Duane Holmes, who scored his third goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Oxford United.

Timmy Chandler didn’t score a goal, but did provide a solid effort in an upset win, as Eintracht Frankfurt toppled favorites Borussia Dortmund. The German powerhouse played without Christian Pulisic, who dressed but did not enter the action.

Finally, a group of Americans sealed advancement in the Liga MX Apertura quarterfinals. William Yarbrough played a full shift for Leon in a loss, but Club Tijuana could not muster enough to overturn a 3-0 first leg loss. Meanwhile, Jose Torres and Luis Silva did not enter the match, but Tigres cruised to a 5-0 win, eliminating Pumas from the competition.
