Americans Abroad Sunday Rewind: Wooten, Miazga, Gatt and more

Andrew Wooten Sandhausen 56

Sunday was an undoubted success for Andrew Wooten, but few other Americans took off for the international break on positive notes.

Wooten scored a goal while also adding an assist in Sandhausen’s win over 1860 Munich. The goal was Wooten’s fifth league goal of the season as well as his fifth finish in his past six games in all competitions.

Of the other Americans Abroad, only Matt Miazga, Josh Gatt and Cole Grossman logged heavy minutes. Miazga continues to assert himself as a member of Vitesse’s starting lineup, but the on-loan Chelsea centerback’s latest match proved a 2-1 loss to Heracles. The Norwegian league duo, meanwhile, alternated a win and a loss as Grossman’s Stabaek cruised while Gatt’s Molde faltered.

Here’s a closer look at Sunday’s Americans Abroad:

  1. Bob Bradley is in big trouble. I get the feeling,….watching through the tele, that the team just isn’t interested in playing for him. Sad to say,…but that appears to be the case.

It’s up to the owners. If they tell the team,…Bob is our guy no matter what,…then maybe they will start digging in but it seems like they quit on him and are hoping the owners will lose their nerve and fire him.

    • If your observation is indeed true, it says a lot more about the players than it does the coach. To be fair though, I wouldn’t expect hearing that the man hired to save your season was best known previously for almost getting the US to a World Cup quarterfinal, almost getting Egypt to a World Cup berth, and almost getting a French club promoted. Seems like a guy who might “almost” save an EPL club from relegation…

If management brought in a no-name like Bradley, I have to think they weren’t expecting a miracle turnaround. He’s got to identify the problems and be given an actual chance to correct them before people start saying he’s failed. I mean, he’s been in charge for four league matches.

      • It does say more about the players, but its the coach’s job to fix it. Over 100 million dollars in lost value if they are relegated, they can’t afford to wait too long, no one in the EPL can if they are in the relegation zone even if revolving managers might actually make things worse.

  2. Aron Johannsson did not dress…but on USMNT for a “do or die” game against Mexico
Cameron Carter-Vickers dressed but did not play….but on USMNT
Caleb Stanko dressed but did not play…..But on USMNT

Not too assuring ahead of a big game

    • Bizzy you were the guy the other day calling for Green to start (which I’m not opposed to).

AJ- Herzog was over to watch him personally, perhaps it really is a case manager player conflict by bringing him in it could up his value for a January transfer or open the eyes of the manager

CCV- was in with U20s last month, played cup match two weeks ago, goes against Harry Kane everyday in training

Stanko- Stanko has started most of Vaduz’s matches since arriving, he’s one of the few true #6s in our pool and was Tab’s captain for the 2013 U20 WC so the coaching staff has history with him.

And its unlikely any of the three will be asked to play a role in either match this week.

      • Green team trying to break into – Bayern Munich
Green is on a team that never loses, that are stacked in the FW department
Scored against Inter milan (Champions Cup)
        Scored against Augsburg (Ger Cup)
Green trains/plays with a star studded group like Thomas Müller, Philipp Lahm, Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben, Xabi Alonso

Julian’s situation is TOTALLY different. A bench player on Bayern is better than a starter for lets say TFC

    • i’m ok with the CCV & AJ callups. CCV was getting minutes which is impressive given his age and they probably want to give AJ a look. plus i think there are 26 players but only 23 can be involved.
