The U.S. Men’s National Team may be missing a major contributor for the upcoming clash against Mexico.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says that Geoff Cameron is unlikely to feature this weekend against West Ham while also adding that the defender likely won’t travel back to the U.S. to join up with the USMNT. Cameron has been dealing with a knee issue recently after picking up an injury against Hull City on Oct. 29.

“The knee has improved, but as with these injuries, when you open up your knee joint, they heal quickly but that last five percent can drag on for a while,” Hughes said in a press conference. “He still has a little bit of pain. The likelihood is that he won’t be involved for us and he probably won’t be involved on the international level next week. He probably just needs to calm the knee down and then he’ll be okay.”

Cameron has been a cornerstone of the USMNT defense throughout the past year or so. The Stoke City defender started and played every minute of all four of the team’s World Cup qualifiers and all six Copa América matches in 2016.

  3. freakin’ a… Just when we seem to have a pretty solid back 4… I used to be a Omar fan, but just haven’t see him in action since he started playing Liga MX.

    • Tough call. Gonzo has experience against Mex in hex matches and plays in Mexico but his achilles heel has always been his lack of quality distribution out of the back and the once a game wtf where you doing moment. Birnbaum has the Copa experience but no hex experience but gives you slightly better distribution imo. I think experience matters here in a hex match against Mexico go with Gonzo and hope for no wtf moments.

My bigger fear is Bradley playing the DM role. His instincts have always been to be more of a box to box midfielder. Watching him in that role off and on for the past year I’ve noticed he leaves a large gap/hole in from of his CBs. We’ve been playing scrubs in the last two international windows so they didn’t exploit that space but a possession oriented team like Mexico will. Also concerning his how on a turnover by another player further up field as the other team begins their counter MB would just stroll to the movement of the play all the while I’m watching this massive hole/gap at the top of the box and seeing no players from TnT, St Vincent, or Cuba make runs to fill it. I know how everyone feels about Beckerman but he never got far enough forward to leave this gap so he never had to rush to fill it. Bradley moves forward creating the gap and then doesnt not rush back anymore to fill this gap in the front of the CBs. This will leave us more vulnerable than normal of turnovers coming in the midfield. I think we are better than ever before everywhere else on the pitch and I’m not saying MB is bad I’m just saying he’s not a true DM.

      • I would be more concerned about Sasha K turning the ball over in the midfield and lacking the speed to recover on counters

    • i think we see Gonzo…..JK likes to have a right footed RCB and a left footed LCB….couple that with OG’s experience in big games and the fact that he plays in Liga MX, it just makes too much sense!

      • We will not see Brooks and Gonzo together. Too much ball watching.

It’ll be Brooks and Birnbaum or Besler and Gonzo. I would not at all be surprised to see Besler/Gonzo for Mexico and Brooks/Birnbaum for CR. JK be cray.
