Following Friday’s loss, the U.S. Men’s National Team returns to action on Tuesday night for another vital World Cup qualifier.

The Hexagonal continues on Tuesday night at Costa Rica’s Estadio Nacional as the USMNT visits Los Ticos for the second game of the qualifying round. The USMNT enters on a low following a late 2-1 loss to Mexico, while Costa Rica topped Trinidad & Tobago in their Hex opener.

After starting last match with a three-at-the-back formation, the U.S. reverts to a more conventional 4-4-2 for Tuesday’s match. Brad Guzan joins the starting lineup in place of the injured Tim Howard, while Jozy Altidore and Bobby Wood remain atop the attack against Los Ticos.

The SBI staff will be offering updates and analysis in the comments section below, so feel free to follow along, and as always, please feel free to share your own thoughts and opinions below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. Midfield non existent. The MB and JJ pairing isnt working this cycle gotta find sometging different. The centerback pairing of Gonzolez and Brooks couldnt be more awful. Turnover after turnover in the midfield. I kept seeing Chandler or Besler both fullbacks as the last defender on CR quick counters of our midfield turnovers.

MB must is not a true DM he drifts to far foward. Benching him is justifiable for his turnover ration on forward passes.

G damn what happened tonite. I feel like i got kicked in the face and my brain isnt working.

    • Honestly, the U.S. team tonight looked a lot like the Sounders right before Sigi got fired. Like a team that has given up on their coach. Could be nothing, but had the same attitude.

    • Not a singular reason worth pinpointing. Letdown from Friday? Lack of confidence from long-term and short-term issues? Quitting on the coach? Who knows, but it was bad. Very bad.

    • There is no excuse for that performance. It’s one thing to play poorly, but too often I saw players not putting forth a lot of effort. I find it hard to believe that their players, many of which are in MLS, are that much better than our players. Bad coaching, bad playing, lack of effort, with some individual exceptions. This team should be ashamed of itself.

  2. Well, you can’t un-see that. Worst game for the U.S. by Brooks. Or any defender that I can remember. Klinsmann…what can you say…Sunil won’t fire him, but he is a travesty more often than not.

  3. He can’t continue. He made no adjustments in a game we had no possession and only 2 chances. Until the 70th minute when we were down 2. And the change was to take off the best player we have. His subs made no sense and were 15 minutes too late. We are almost at the point with 0 pts and a -5 goal differential that we need to start playing for 4th place.

  4. Will be hanging out a bit to dissect whatever that was. Feel free to throw some questions my way to discuss that USMNT performance (or lack thereof).

  5. bradley needs to get time out.
at least for the next 3 games, what a poor level he’s showing lately.
also jones is subpar, there are better options than him

  6. Sunil, I hope you were listening to Thomas Rongen TV commentary. Juergen.. you deserved this disaster by everything Rongen ripped you with! Klinnsman has not tactically put us into a position to succeed. Way too many issues to list here, but a dollar says that you’ve definitely lost your locker room!

Sasha does not deserve garbage time, Yedlin does not deserve being benched in qualifiers. If you are featuring Sasha and Gooch, you needed Pulisic in there also.
    Ok, I’ll stop just whining..
Finally, a Mexican referee that put practically the entire team on yellow.. Honduras must be licking their chops..

  7. We need to start a campaign to get Klinnsman removed. Missing the WC would be devastating. SG says we he will not change during hex. If so, we are doomed. We need to start demanding a change now.

  8. that 4th looked like off side
    team is getting destroyed
there needs to be change of some players and Jurgen is not the one to see this happening.
hes hell bent on the same old same old

  9. You have got to be kidding me. JK finally makes a change and goes Gooch for Pulisic. This guy is the biggest moron ever. TAKE BRADLEY OFF. TAKE GONZALEZ OFF. TAKE BROOKS OFF. Any of them. Put Sacha on. Yedlin on. I just want to scream.

  10. wow – us loses possession when bradley hits another 10 yard pass off line at 90 mph. long ball that brooks can’t trap and then campbell makes brooks look like an amateur

  11. GOAL CAMPBELL! The rout is on. Several Ticos break past the USMNT backline and Campbell has little more than a simple finish past Guzan. Getting out of hand now.

  12. I’d be ok not seeing Omar for a while. That said, he’s been far from the only terrible player. Unexpected to see some fire and composure after losing to Mex at home. As I type this CR scores the second. I’m at a loss for how Klinnsman has no answers to generate some stack and sure up this defense. We really have no one better than a 85% healthy 35 to Jones. Bradley looks mediocre and can’t put in a decent corner.

  13. great tactical sub – gooch – young speedy winger in for pulisic – young speedy winger. Fantastic move to change the shape of the team

  14. Well, this is over. Even if they pull one back, two I find it impossible. This should be the end of Klinsman. It is now or never.

  15. come on , when is Jurgen bringing some subs!
    what a stubborn guy
bring sacha or gooch to get some cohesion in the midfield.
we are wasting time and losing the game. now 2-0 Gosh!
    Unbelievable, Jurgen should get fired!

  16. GOAL BOLANOS! Giveaway springs the Costa Rica attack and Bolanos slips one past Guzan. The USMNT keeper gets a touch to the close-range shot, but just can’t keep it out. Was left out to dry. Another AWFUL sequence from the U.S. Sloppy, no pressure. Brutal, and it’s 2-0 Ticos.

  18. Time to put an end to the Klinsmann experiment. Let’s cut our losses and fire him. Omar, Timmy, and JJ are done for now and MB90 has not been the same player since he got hurt before the Costa Rica game at the last cycle. This team is simply unwatchable. The rap on Klinsmann is always that he has been a terrible tactician, but a good motivator; however, he lost to this team a long long time ago.

  19. No need for Costa Rica to worry about set pieces from this edition of Bradley. Horrific touches, late on challenges, absolutely no creative notions. He’s done.

    • corner one – over every one for a throw in; corner 2 – doesn’t beat the first man; free kick – over everyone; free kick – out for a goal kick.

    • mainly jozy – who in all fairness is getting manhandled, but we keep possession. he is going to get a yellow or red card pretty soon because the ref isn’t protecting him at all.

  20. Legit have no idea why a sub hasn’t been made. Was clear from the first few minutes that there was nothing going on. Why continue to jam these square pegs in round holes? Doesn’t make sense to me.
