While the MLS Cup final took centerstage over the weekend, Russell Canouse made a moment to remember to headline this weekend’s Americans Abroad.
The 21-year-old midfielder scored his first professional goal on Saturday, leading VfL Bochum to a 1-0 victory over 1860 Munich. Canouse, who is on loan from Hoffenheim, has appeared in 12 matches for the 2. Bundesliga club this season.
The weekend wasn’t as kind to Timmy Chandler, who picked up a late red card in Eintracht Frankfurt’s draw with Canouse’s parent club.
Elsewhere, Alfredo Morales helped Ingolstadt top previously-unbeaten RB Leipzig, Ventura Alvarado entered late in a Club World Cup win and Tim Ream featured in an eight-goal thriller.

For those who didn’t see it, Chandler’s red card was not deserved. It looked like he was trying to break up an altercation and then got ejected for pushing someone out of the way.
The definition of a deserved red card
Technically it was a second yellow, his hands appear to go up around the opponent’s neck or face so I can see why he gave the second yellow. The ref is looking right at them and is maybe 5 yards away so I think he got it right. I’m sure since he’s an American international he’ll be suspended for three games by the league.
Both Yedlin and Miazga were benefiting from injuries to the regular starters. Yedlin was playing well and his team was winning with him in the line up, so I would expect to see him start again soon. However, Miazga played well but his team was losing with him as a starter. Not his fault the team is out of form but i take it the coach is tinkering with the line up. I don’t see him cracking the line up now if Vitesse is winning.
As many Newcastle fans stated perhaps it was his haircut
Sad
Lots of “did not dress” or “dressed, but did not play”…
A majority of the did not dress are either injured or coming off injury. You also have guys like Zelalem and Hyndman who are not first team players and haven’t dressed for league matches all season. Williams is suspended from his red card as well.
I am interested if anyone knows anything about Miazga and Yedlin both had been starting and by accounts playing well and then all of a sudden they are back on the bench the last few weeks.
