Americans Abroad Saturday Rewind: Wood, Bradley, Alvarado and more

When it comes to wins and losses, Saturday was not a very good day for some of the top Americans Abroad, but Bobby Wood did provide a moment to remember.

The U.S. Men’s National Team striker scored a stunning goal to open the scoring in Hamburg’s clash with Mainz, but Wood was helpless as his side fell, 3-1, in his return to his side’s starting lineup. The loss sees the club drop to 16th in the league, one point out of the relegation zone.

Another team battling relegation is Swansea City, and Bob Bradley’s side was thumped yet again on Saturday in a 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough. The Swans fell to 19th with the defeat and are now three points away from safety.

Ventura Alvarado played the first half of Club America’s Club World Cup consolation game, but the Mexican side was undone in penalty kicks by Atletico Nacional.

Elsewhere, Bjorn Johnsen scored another goal in a Hearts draw, Gboly Ariyibi provided an assist for Chesterfield and DeAndre Yedlin logged a full shift in a Newcastle win.
